Educational Goals You will learn:
To make an analysis of the production system of a Dutch animal husbandry farm based on identification of risk factors.
To develop specific unique new innovation, by going through the innovation cycle.
To analyse product and quality management in Dutch animal husbandry farms.
To develop a business plan for a small company related you your innovation.
Content/subject The Dutch animal husbandry offers the daily food (meat, milk, eggs) for millions. Small farms, big farms, modernized, in collaboration with other sectors and often looking for different approaches and products. Innovation and problem solving to continue the success is necessary. How to react to the demand of customers for healthy and sustainable products for example? Those are issues you will deal with in this minor. 
You will analyse the production system in a Dutch animal husbandry farm to be able to give advice and you will come up with a workable innovation. Part of the minor is also developing a business plan for a small company related to your innovation.
It means you will have to know about nutrition, health, housing and welfare of the animals. You will learn about farm management in relation to the demand. And you will learn basic skills like problem solving, innovation development, external communication, presentation, project management and team work.
Target audience* External: students with at least 2 year Bachelor education in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry
Added Value* Students will learn how to improve and innovate animal husbandry practices. They will acquire basic skills about doing business, and, after studying and analysing, give advice to support farm management in real live case studies. They will write and submit a real business plan for their own innovative company within the livestock sector.
Teaching method(s) and study load 30 EC corresponding with 30*28 hours work load = 840 hours
Rating scale Marks 1.0 - 10.0
Exams / Tests / Essays Written tests for each module, as well as a project assignment for each module

Admission conditions for VHL students​ You have to study now in a Bachelor Animal Husbandry or comparable study program.
Always you need to have at least 90 credits from your Bachelor program at the moment of registration and at least 120 credits to be able to start with the minor.
Students need to be experienced in farm practices through a placement or other individual practical animal husbandry assignments.
